The Association between Serum GGT within Normal Range and Cardiovascular Risk Factors, Metabolic Syndrome of Premenopausal and Postmenopausal Women
Lee Geon-Ho

Abstract
Objectives : This study was performed to investigate the association between serum gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) within normal range and cardiovascular risk factors, metabolic syndrome (MS) in korean women.

Methods : Data were obtained from 550 premenopausal women & 882 postmenopausal women without hepatitis B, C, chronic liver disease, chronic renal disease in Daegu. Waist circumference, body mass index, mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure, lipid profile, uric acid, hsCRP, AST, ALT, GGT were obtained.

Results : Odds ratio of metabolic syndrome for quartiles of serum GGT within normal range showed increased trend in premenopausal and postmenopausal women. In premenopausal women, total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL cholesterol, log hsCRP, uric acid were significantly increased according to quartiles of serum GGT within normal range. In postmenopausal women, total cholesterol, triglyceride, fasting glucose, log hsCRP, uric acid were significantly increased.

Conclusions : These findings suggest the possibility that elevated serum GGT within normal range was related with cardiovascular risk factors and metabolic syndrome in premenopausal women than postmenopausal women.
